For a multifamily project situated on a tricky hillside double lot in Silverlake, we looked to 1920s apartment building typologies for inspiration: an apartment house comprised of compact studio and one-bedroom units with built-in components to maximize the apartments’ cozy footprints alongside private and separate owner’s unit. Together, the inhabitants could share circulation, parking, and structural foundations. Though unbuilt, this project stoked our investment in and enthusiasm for density and exceptional, uncommon living.
