For a growing young family, our clients invited SSP to design an entry vestibule and a new bedroom addition for their existing one-story 1920's bungalow in Highland Park. Like an origami extension to the existing house, a new simple pitch roof reframes the combined volume.

This new roof generously crowns the entry — at its high point — and provides a buffer between inside and out, to expand the front door threshold and slow procession to the interior. That indoor volume shares its roof with a covered front porch that offers a built-in bench looking out over the front yard play space and the intimate neighborhood beyond.
